5 Everyday Things From the Past That Are Gone For Good

Some things fall by the wayside over time replaced by new inventions. Like radio programs, replaced by standard tv, replaced by cable tv, replaced by streaming apps. Technology is always moving us in new directions and the things we once thought were so indispensable suddenly become, obsolete.

Sometimes it happens so fast that we might even forget how important these things were to us. To follow is a list of things (or services) we used every day, and now are lost to time. Or in someone's closet or attic in some cases.

Answering machines

Not voicemail but similar, somehow answering machines were more personal. Most people had a ritual of coming home and turning on the answering machine to hear the messages played out over the machine’s speaker. Or there was the convenience of letting the machine get a call, so you could screen them. It was always a little startling when leaving a message on someone's machine if they suddenly picked up.

Beepers

It was the height of cool to have a beeper back in the day. It meant you were so important you had to be connected to everyone at all times. People who had beepers would give codes to their friends and family…
