10 popular words and phrases used in the 90s
I was a teenager in the 90s so slang was very important. It’s funny how some of the words we used are still around, but some are truly gone for good.
Some of these might be regional, living on the west coast I think most people have heard of them, as they often made it into movies and song lyrics. To be fair, some of these terms were likely around before the 90s but these were the words I remember using.
Fly
If something was fly, it was really good.
Example: “His clothes are fly.”
Hooptie
A messed-up car.
Example: “I don't want to go to the party in that hooptie.”
Hella
This is a San Francisco Bay Area word that has since grown in popularity and is still widely used.
Example: “Damn, it’s hella hot today at Ocean Beach.”
Tight
If something was tight, it meant cool.
Example: “That song is hella tight.”
The bomb
Something was really good if it was the bomb.
