Everything Was Normal Until it Wasn’t
Nothing like a tree falling on your property to jump-start your day
It was the first week of January 2019, the middle of the night. We were having a windstorm but I went to bed not really thinking about it. It wasn’t one of those storms that the news was hyping, just a mention of high winds.
An unimaginably loud crash woke me up at about 3 am. The first thing I noticed was white dust all over my bed, myself, and my cat who lay at the foot of my bed. Then I looked up, and in the dim light, I could barely make out a tree branch.
Thinking I was still dreaming I jumped out of bed and turned on the light, sure enough, a tree branch was coming through my ceiling, right over my bed.
My family was awake by now, everyone buzzing about the tree. In a fog, I remember going to the sliding glass door and looking out and seeing an enormous tree trunk, tipped over, right onto the house.
That time it took over a month for repairs to be done before I could move back into my bedroom.
This time was different
Fast forward to January 2023. What is it about January? It’s my birthday month that must be it. I woke up this morning and it happened again.
