Introvert Confessions, We Really Really Don’t Want to go to the Party
Extroverts, we’re very different than you and that’s okay
Introverts dread being invited to parties. A concert, movie, or ballgame is not as bad, there is something else that will be the focus. But places that require small talk? We’d rather jump off a cliff.
We know it’s deemed “weird” if we do not go. So we usually show up and try to leave early hoping we don’t appear rude. We wrestle with ourselves over this, we don’t want to upset anyone, but it’s upsetting for us to be put in overly social situations.
Extroverts and introverts, what’s the difference?
Extroverts outnumber introverts three to one. The world is set up for extroverts (also spelled extraverts). It is common for an introvert to feel out of place and misunderstood as a result.
Often, extroverts feel the need to try to get an introvert to “come out of their shell” confusing introversion with shyness. Not all introverts are shy, and introversion itself is not shyness.
Extroverts get energized by being social, this recharges them, and being alone drains them. An introvert is the opposite, it drains them to be social and recharges them to be alone.
