The 80s gave us hair spray, MTV, video games, and lots of horror movies. Growing up in the 80s we had great movies but horror movies were in a class of their own. Slasher films became a staple, and paranormal thrillers were embraced as never before.

These are the movies we grew up with, and to me, no Halloween is complete without watching a few of them. I have even continued the tradition with my Zillianial kid, who loves them!

Spoiler alert, I will give away some of the plots in these descriptions, you have been warned!

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddie Kruger makes his debut along with Johnny Depp in this dreamworld slasher film directed by Wes Craven. In the movie, Freddy’s victims are plagued by him when they sleep. He is the deranged ghost of a man who was once a killer and died on the same block (Elm Street) back now to kill again.

The movie dances between reality and the dream world and at times it is hard to know if victims were actually killed or not. We know that Freddy doesn’t go anywhere, A Nightmare on Elm Street went on to make a total of 11 movies!

The Shining
